Your ring goes to our bench, not into a shipping box. Myranda Fine Jewelry
has a master jeweler on site at our Chandler showroom, which means your ring stays in the
building from the moment you hand it over until the moment you collect it.
Most jewelry stores in the East Valley send ring resizing out to a third-party trade shop.
Your ring leaves the store, travels to someone you will never meet, and comes back days or
weeks later. We do not work that way. With 998 five-star Google reviews and a
jeweler at the bench six days a week, we are the jewelers Chandler trusts with the rings they
cannot replace.
Walk in any time during opening hours, or book ahead if you would like a dedicated appointment.
Resizing Done In-House, Never Shipped Out
This is the difference that matters most, and it is worth understanding before you hand your
ring to anybody.
When a store sends your ring out, three things happen. It is handled by people who never spoke
to you. Nobody in the store can answer questions about it while it is gone. And if something goes
wrong, you are relying on a chain of custody you cannot see.
Our jeweler works on the premises. If you have a question part-way through, we can walk back to
the bench and ask. If your ring needs something we did not expect — a worn shank, a loose
prong we notice while it is in hand — we can show you before we go any further, rather than
calling you about a surprise.
How Ring Resizing Works
1. Sizing
We measure your finger properly, with sizing rings, at a time of day when your hands are
typical. Fingers change size through the day and through the seasons, and a measurement taken in a
hot car in July is not the one you want your ring built around.
2. Assessment
Our jeweler examines the ring — the metal, the setting style, the stone placement and the
condition of the shank. That determines whether the ring can be resized, how far it can move, and
which method to use.
3. The work
For most rings, sizing down means removing a small section of the shank and rejoining it.
Sizing up means either stretching the existing metal or adding a matching section. The join is
soldered, filed and polished until it disappears.
4. Finishing and inspection
Every ring is cleaned, polished and inspected before it goes back to you, with stones and
prongs checked and settings tightened.
Sizing Up and Sizing Down
Sizing down is usually the more straightforward of the two, since we are
removing material and closing the gap.
Sizing up depends on how far. A modest increase can often be achieved by
carefully stretching the existing metal. Anything more than that needs new material added to the
shank, matched to the original in colour and karat so the join does not show.
As a general rule most rings can move comfortably by a size or two in either direction. Beyond
that it depends entirely on the individual ring — the setting, the stone spacing, and how
much metal there is to work with. Bring it in and we will tell you honestly what is achievable.
Rings We Can Resize, and Rings We Cannot
Not every ring can be resized, and any jeweler who tells you otherwise is one to be careful
with. Here is the honest version.
Usually straightforward
- Plain bands in gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum
- Solitaire engagement rings
- Halo and hidden-halo settings
- Three-stone rings
- Most rings with stones set only across the top
Possible, but needs assessment first
- Rings with stones set part-way down the shank
- Antique and heirloom pieces, where the metal may be fragile or previously repaired
- Rings that have already been resized more than once
- Very thin or heavily worn shanks, which may need rebuilding before sizing
Generally not resizable by cutting the shank
- Full eternity bands, where stones run the entire way round and there is nowhere to cut
without disturbing the setting - Tension-set rings, where the stone is held by the spring pressure of the metal itself
- Rings in alternative metals such as tungsten, titanium and stainless steel, which cannot be
soldered conventionally
If your ring falls into that last group it is not necessarily the end of it. Sizing beads, a
sizing bar or a full remake are sometimes options. Bring it in and we will talk through what is
realistic.
Engagement Rings and Wedding Bands
Engagement rings are the most common resize we do, and the most personal. Sometimes it is after
a proposal where the size was a best guess. Sometimes it is years later, when a ring that fit
perfectly no longer does.
These get particular care. The stone is removed or protected depending on the setting, the work
is carried out, and every prong is inspected and tightened before the ring goes back on your hand.
If you are having a wedding band sized to sit flush against an engagement ring, bring both —
they should be fitted as a pair.
Heirloom and Antique Rings
A ring that has been in the family for decades needs a different approach from one bought last
year. Older pieces may have been repaired before, may be made of metal that has grown brittle, and
may hold hand-cut stones that cannot simply be replaced if something goes wrong.
Our jeweler will assess an heirloom before touching it and tell you plainly what the risks are.
Sometimes the right advice is to leave a fragile antique alone and wear it on a chain instead. We
would rather say that than take on work that should not be done.
Not Sure of Your Size?
Come in and we will size you properly. No appointment needed. Ring sizing is genuinely worth
doing in person — printable paper sizers and string-around-the-finger methods are
unreliable, and knuckle size matters as much as finger size.
If you are buying a surprise engagement ring and cannot measure her finger, bring in a ring she
already wears on the relevant hand and we will work from that.

Ring Resizing Questions
How long does ring resizing take?
Most straightforward resizes are completed in-house. Complex work on heirloom or heavily
stone-set pieces takes longer, and we will tell you before we start.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk in any time we are open. If you would like dedicated time with a designer, booking
ahead guarantees it.
Will the resize be visible?
On a properly executed resize, no. The join is soldered, filed and polished so that it
disappears into the band.
Can you resize a ring you did not sell me?
Yes. We resize rings bought anywhere.
Will resizing damage my stones?
Handled correctly, no. Stones are removed or protected depending on the setting, and everything
is inspected before the ring goes back to you. This is precisely why having a jeweler on site
matters: the person doing the work is the person you can ask.
How many times can a ring be resized?
There is no fixed limit, but each resize removes or adds a little metal. A ring that has been
sized several times may need its shank rebuilt before it can be sized again. We will tell you
where yours stands.
Do you resize men’s wedding bands?
Yes, in gold and platinum. Tungsten, titanium and similar alternative metals generally cannot
be resized — those usually need replacing, and we can help with that too.
